Klaus Mair is een oude rot in het skileraar vak: al 17 jaar geeft hij les in Oostenrijk, USA en Nieuw-Zeeland. Nu wil hij met zijn DVD ook nog een steentje bijdragen. In 84 minuten van blauwe piste tot black diamond! De eerste 3 lessen zijn gewijd aan de echte basis. Altijd handig om te bekijken, ook als ervaren skier. Het is duidelijk dat deze gast goed kan skiën, maar ik heb zo mijn twijfels bij deze methode.
Hoeveel skiërs zijn in staat om bij zichzelf na te gaan wat ze niet goed doen? Dan zouden ze eerst een video opname van zichzelf moeten maken en die beelden vergelijken met de beelden van Klaus. Leuk die theorie, maar volgens mij moeten de meeste mensen ‘het gevoel’ ervaren om een nieuwe techniek onder de knie te krijgen. Ik denk dat als je eenmaal op de piste staat je al 90% van de inhoud van de DvD vergeten bent. Volgens mij kun je beter je geld bewaren voor een privélesje.
Enne.. die carvebochten met hand aan de grond zijn zo Oldskool en bewegingstechnisch gezien helemaal FOUT!!!

First of all I want to point out that my DVD is not supposed to replace a ski lesson that you take on snow with a trained instructor (which would be an unfair comparison anyway as my DVD only costs a fraction of the price of a lesson).
I am convinced though that an essential element of skiing, and any other sport, lies in the fascination of learning and getting better, that you try to understand how things work, watch other people do it and then go and try it yourself.
Being a ski instructor for over 17 years it often seems to me that people do not have the knowledge, experiment something new on every turn and work way too hard to make it down the hill. This was the motivation for me to produce this DVD and if you go on my webpage and look at the reviews from skiers that used it, you will see that it actually does work.
It does not really matter if you are able to recognize what your main mistake is. The main part of the DVD shows you the main ski fundamentals and some easy drills to get better. To make sure that you remember the things you wanted to do on snow, the DVD comes with 3 reminder cards that you can take with you on the slope and sum up the single lessons and its drills.
The body carve on the video is not a drill of course that I expect the viewers to do. This was just added to show what angles are possible in carving and may as well be called old school.

Thanx Klaus for replying.
I completely understand the purpose of your dvd and your intructions are clear. I used video’s as well to improve my skiing technique (to ski Eurocup contest and freeride contests), so I know that watching a DVD might be usefull.
But I just wanted to ephasize that instruction video’s could never replace normal instruction. In that case the name of your DVD (and maybe the text of this blogarticle) might be misleading.

I totally agree, that a sports video can never replace a real lesson and it was not my intention to imply that with the titel. I hope that my DVD helps skiers realize that taking a lesson, watching a ski dvd or working on their skiing in general will allow them to get more out of their precious time on snow. And I am sure that you will agree that the better you ski the more fun you have!
